My topic for the Texas Middle School 2011 Science Fair is: Do different types of carbonated soda have different types of pH?
Purpose Of Experiment: To figure out if all sodas have the same types of carbonated pH.
Hypothesis: I think they all have the same types of carbonated pH.
Expireiment: While conducting this experiment, I first drank a portion of all the soda I had selected. They all had a acidy taste to them. While trying to test the pH, I tried to differ from the acidy taste. Some, were less than others. So I did some research. I seemed very lost there, so I looked on the back of each can, and saw that, on every can there were different percentages. So I then put each soda pop into a bottle, put on my safety goggles, and shook the bottle. Acid is normally really fizzy, so you should be able to differ from there. After I was done shaking, they all seemed to fizzle up less and more than others. They also settled down faster or slower than others.
Results: Sprite had a pH level of 3.29, Mountain Dew had a pH level of 3.27, Coca-Cola had a pH level of 2.52, Dr. Pepper had a pH level of 3.6, and Pepsi had a pH level of 2.61.
Conclusion: Even though all sodas may look the same or taste the same, not all of the same things consist in them. My tested hypothesis goes to show that I however was incorrect. All sodas do not have the same pH level.
