APOYADO Elecciones de 1872 burguesía comercial y financiera PROMESAS ELECTORALES GANADOR Modernización del estado Manejo honesto de los fondos públicos Acabar con los viejos males del militarismo Alcanzó la máxima votación construir "una república práctica, una república de la verdad". Faltando pocos días para la entrega de la banda presidencial a Pardo y Lavalle los hermanos Gutiérrez, dieron un golpe de estado, apoyados conservadores anticivilistas y un sector del ejercito.

  3. LIDERADO POR LOS HERMANOS GUTIERRES Tomás, Silvestre, Marcelino y Marceliano Un sector del ejército decidido a prolongar el militarismo. Tenían el temor a perder el protagonismo y los privilegios derivados de su control del Estado El 22 de julio de 1872 apresaron al presidente José Balta Jefe Supremo de la República a Tomás Gutierrez el pueblo limeño Enfrentaron a los golpistas en las calles Marina de Guerra En 03 días el triunfo fue total Se dio fin al Primer Militarismo y se inició el Primer Civilismo .“El auge del guano se había acabado y el Perú estaba al borde de la crisis más dramática de su vida republicana “
