NON-FICTION: Catalogued Biography/Autobiography • is defined as someone’s life story which may include information about their birth, death, education, personal life, key points etc. • Include items on musical groups such as the Beatles • All biographies/autobiographies DO require a BIOGRAPHY sticker • Exclude memoirs (a portion of the author’s life as it relates to a person or particular event), and collections of biographies about several individuals (i.e.: scientists, politicians, etc.).   42. The Library collects materials for both an adult fiction and non-fiction literacy collection.  Literacy titles are often books with accompanying CDs. Whenever possible, the CDs are to be placed in the back and/or front of the books so the material can be shelved with other books. Literacy materials get the LT designation before the call number on the spine. MARC record  requires appropriate coding in the LDR, 006 and 007 to properly display as a book & CD. Processing Literacy (LT) • Include a Kanga pocket inside back cover and/or front to hold CD/DVD(s) AND add “Includes # discs” label, placed under barcode on back cover (when disc included). • RFID tag on book only • Exceptions: • If book too skinny for spine label, place label on front cover.   47. GRAPHIC Novel Print Materials • The Library purchases non-fiction graphic novelstargeted at a 13+ audience. These titles are catalogued as non-fiction but do not include comic strips. • The Library also purchases juvenile graphic novelstargeted at an "up to age 12" audience. Titles may include 'all ages' and up to age 12 titles. These titles are catalogued as fiction but do not include comic strips. • Cuttering rules on the following page… Back to TOC

Juvenile Graphic Novel Print Materials • Juvenile Graphic Novels – Not Based on Classics The cutter is decided in the following priority: 1) Main character in a series (e.g., all books with Spiderman as the main character would be SPIDE, all titles with Baby Mouse as the main character would be BABYM). 2) Series if there is no main character (e.g., Graphic Sparks would be SPARK, Pokémon = POKEM). 3) If book is stand alone title with no "known" popular character/series, cutter by title. • If the character name is less than 5 letters, just use character name (e.g.: RUST, or LUZ. See Q&A). • Juvenile Graphic Novels Based on Classics • Cutter by 5 for original author (i.e. Twain, Dicke for Dickens, Wells, Shake for Shakespeare). Back to TOC
