  6. February 1-2 – Imbolc • cross-quarter day • celebration of Celtic goddess Brid (Saint Brigit) • purity, virginity, newness of year (snowmelt) • feminine aspect is that of adolescent

  7. March 21-22 – Ostara • spring equinox • celebration of Germanic goddess Oestre • female coming of age, fertility / rite of passage • eggs and bunnies (Easter)

  8. May 1 – Beltaine / May Day • cross-quarter day • union of male and female personification • Maypole • “Great Rite”

  9. June 21-22 - Litha • summer solstice • longest day of year • solar god at height of his power

  10. August 1 – Lughnasadh • cross-quarter day • aka Lunasa • celebration of Celtic god Lugh • baking of fresh bread from first harvest • solar god is losing power • Lammas

  11. September 21-22 - Mabon • autumn equinox • making of wine, pie, tarts from harvest of berries and other fruits • wine is blood of dying god

  12. October 31 – Samhain • cross-quarter day • celebration of ancestors • final harvest (squash, etc), feast for dead • veil between living and dead is thin, divination and scrying • god dies on Samhain

  13. December 21 - Yule • winter solstice • giving wassail • god is born to the goddess Yule on longest night of year • vigil, playing midwife to goddess until sunrise
