Responsibility that comes with Free Speech • The concept of democracy is based on the idea of freedom of speech. • The right of freedom of speech is particularly important to the media. • They utilize the freedom of expression to inform the public about current situations. • The internet and blogs provide major outlets for freedom of speech.

  4. Evolution of Freedom of Speech The ways of communicating and expressing opinions has grown. Early forms: -Bill of Rights in the Constitution -Free Speech Movement 1960’s protesting -Internet -blogs, social networking

  5. Benefits of Freedom of Speech • Keeps the public informed • People can express their opinions. • Keeps a flow of ideas.

  6. Criticisms • Internet and media falsely portray or exaggerate information. • Through blogs anyone can seem to be an expert on anything. • While there’s more information out there, more chances for false information.

Our View • The internet provides a great outlet for information and freedom of speech. • Blogs, social networking sites • Everyone can have their say • But with the freedom of speech comes responsibility. • Have to make sure that no false information is given out, or information that is said with the intent of being malicious.
