    3. OT help patients use daily activities (occupations) to reach their full potential OT help adapt the environment to maximize patients skills OT provide customized treatment programs to improve peoples ability to perform daily activities

    4. Who benefits from OT? People with work-related injuries, such as lower back problems or repetitive stress injuries People with arthritis, multiple sclerosis People with birth injuries, learning problems, developmental disabilities People with mental health or behavioral problems such as Alzheimers disease, schizophrenia, PTSD, limitations following a stroke or heart attack

    5. Where do OTs work? Hospitals Nursing facilities and rehabilitation centers Home health agencies Schools and early intervention centers Industry Group homes and mental health facilities Academic programs Government agencies

    6. Other areas of practice: Training workers to use proper ergonomics on the job Helping people with low vision maintain their independence Making buildings and homes accessible Promoting health and wellness Assessment and training of older adults and people with disabilities

    7. Job Prospects Excellent Projected growth of 34% through year 2012 96% of 2004 graduates are employed within 8 weeks of graduation Median salary: $51, 370 (Bureau of Labor Statistics)

    8. Admission Requirements UAB has a Master of Science in OT program (2 year program with starting date in the fall of each year) Minimum 3.0 GPA overall Minimum 3.0 GPA in course prerequisites Minimum 1000 score on GRE (minimum 500 verbal; minimum 500 quantitative)

    9. Baccalaureate degree plus the following courses: Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II (BI 141 and 142) Elementary statistics (MA 147) General Chemistry and General Physics HIGHLY recommended Developmental Psychology Abnormal Psychology 9 hours of additional psychology, sociology, or anthropology

    10. Statement about UABs OT program These prerequisites are designed to prepare the applicant for success once admitted into the program. To that end, applicants should pursue the highest level of preparation possible.
