  1. Deposits by Rivers Noor Bennani-Smires

  2. Introduction of the Subject • Water, carries with it diverse sediments: • Sand • Pebbles • Twigs • Leaves • Bits of soil • Sediments are deposited or dropped on the river’s bed as the water slows down • Those deposition help generate: • Deltas • Alluvial fans

  3. Alluvial Fans • Fan-shaped accumulation of sediments • Formed: Stream leaves Mountain Range • Named after their structure: Fans

  4. Deltas • As the journey of a river concludes, it ends up in a body of water similar to: lake or ocean • Delta: the core of the body of water, where the sediments are placed. • Some have the shape of an arc, and others of a triangle.

  5. Soil on Food Plains • Too much melting snow, or rain causes rivers to rise above their banks, and too spread out over food plains.(Floods) • The sediments that were deposited, re-appear as new soil. • Deposition essentially: • Makes soil fertile • Growth of forests • Growth of crops
