Texas - the amazing state • In 1835 the Alamo war was fought between the Mexicans and the Texans. • Mexico won the war. • Jim Bowie and Davy Crockett were famous Texans, who fought and died in the war.
So Texas wanted to be its own country. But Mexico owned Texas as its own state and the Spanish owned Mexico. • So Mexico sent out a General President called Santa Anna to win the war at the Alamo to show they were invincible.
Later General Huston gave a speech. Two days after Huston’s speech, the Texans defeated the Mexican army in 18 minutes! • More than 630 were killed and 700 more were captured.
Texas has many resources like mine oil and natural gas. Lying under Texas soil is one third of the nation's petroleum. • Texas has many people. It has 20,851,820 people there.
It's capital is Austin and Texas has an area of 268,601 square miles.
The Autumn Forest is in Big Bend National Park. It covers more than 800,000 acres.
