  4. The territory • 1902: 2300 inhabitants • 1% not Flemmish

  5. 1914: 1^ migration wave from Germany, then from Poland…Italy (until 1956), then Spain…

  6. In the seventies: from a mining area to an industrial one • 4 th industrial city in Belgium • 63.000 people, 15% from other countries, 70% from another ethnic group • 16% jobless

  7. Lots of families are from Turkey and Marocco

  8. The main school aim:Feeling good, safe and relaxed • llll Let’s visit the school…

  11. In the primary schools doors are open… Kids work in a nice atmosphere…

  12. The space is well structured

  27. We’re going to work alongside Belgium, Germany, Finland, Poland, Spain and us of course…Italy

Christa Prets europarlamentare, presente alla settimana Comenius a Bruxelles: «Incoraggio tutti voi a mantenere una mentalità di apertura verso gli altri, è la base della futura cooperazione europea: giovani che si capiscono.Se i giovani imparano a conoscersi, nonché a capire e ad accettare le loro differenze, allora non dobbiamo avere timori per il futuro dell’Europa.»
