  2. Alfred Noyes (1880-1958) • Alfred Noyes was a rare poet – he was a writer who actually earned enough money from his poetry to make a living! • Noyes wrote “The Highwayman” when he was 26 years old. • Noyes heard the story on vacation in England and was inspired to create this poem.

  5. What is a highwayman? • A highwayman was a robber who stopped stagecoaches and stole money and jewels. Many were considered heroes because they shared the money with the poor. • Robin Hood was considered a highwayman.
