  3. Alfred Jarry said: ” “ The theater, bringing impersonal masks to life, is only for those who are virile enough to create new life: either as a conflict of passions subtler than those we already know, or as a complete new character. Jarry was one of the first people to explore the theatre of the absurd with his most famous play “Ubu Roi” which established his reputation as a great playwright and which influenced many absurdists after him, such as, Ionesco, Arrabal, and Vian. He used this style to humour the audience and poke fun at current affairs such as politics, literature and art.

  4. The Theatre Of The Absurd - A form of drama that emphasizes the absurdity of human existence by employing disjointed, repetitious, and meaningless dialogue, purposeless and confusing situations, and plots that lack realistic or logical development.

  5. My view: Considering I have never seen any of Alfred Jarrys work, my view on his theories is only from what I’ve read. I think the way he uses humour to show his rude thoughts and offensive views on sensitive subjects is good because its an acceptable way to poke fun at these subjects whilst getting his personal thoughts across. “A precociously brilliant student, Jarry enthralled his classmates with a gift for pranks and troublemaking.”  “delighted in attacks on our modesty. He loved to see our cheeks redden with shame and envy.” From my research its implied Jarry used his plays to express his own personality.

  6. ” To be weird! That is my goal! In my view Jarry has achieved this. Becky Ashley
