  3. A little background information • Go to www.poemhunter.com • Type Alfred Noyes into the search bar. • Click on Biography • SKIM – through the biography. You can skip over the sections on his books. • WRITE – important events, ideas, or pieces of his life that may have influenced his work.

  4. READ and ANALYZE • Choose 2 of his poems (other than the “The Highway Man”). • Write the title of each poem on the t-chart. • Read the poem 2 times and keep track of: • Figurative language that he uses. • Topics he writes about. • Themes that you see. • Tone and Mood of the poetry

  5. NOW . . . DO SOME THINKING Use your knowledge of “The Highway Man” and the two poems you read to answer the following : • What events or background, if any, do you think most impacted Noyes’ work? • What seems to be his favorite figurative language devices? • What commonalities do you see among the topics and themes of his poems? • What commonalities do you see among the tones and moods of his poems.
