Jackie Robinson: Pioneer of Sports and Civil Rights

Born on January 31, 1919, in Cairo, GA, Jackie Robinson broke barriers in sports and society. A UCLA student in 1939, he served two years in the military before marrying Rachel Isum on February 10, 1946. In 1957, Robinson became the first African American vice president of a major American company and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. He was also the first baseball player to be featured on a U.S. stamp. Jackie Robinson passed away in 1972, leaving a legacy as a trailblazer for civil rights and equality in athletics.
