Jackie Robinson, born on January 31, 1912, in Cairo, Georgia, broke barriers as the first African American to play in Major League Baseball, joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The things that had happened • He had to go to the back of the school bus till college. • He had to go to a different restaurants then the whites. • Jackie Robinson won many baseball awards. • In 1940 Jackie met Rachel Isum, a smart beautiful nursing student. • Robinson moved to a lot of different states, like California .
Back then……… • Jackie left UCLA in the Spring in 1941 • African Americans were not treated like white Americans. • When he was 10 he loved to play with his older siblings and his mom was so happy that her kids loved and cared for each other.
Family Life • He could not play with the other white kids in town. • His dad flew away to Florida to get more money and never came back.
Important Contributions • And he was the first African American in the baseball hall of fame. • And he played with the Brooklyn Dodgers for 10 years. • And played against the New York Yankees. • He was in the US Army
