  1. Reflect How does this picture relate to Shawn’s relationship with his family? Use textual evidence to support your answer.

Close Read: Love- Chapter 9 Read the paragraphs about love beginning at the bottom of page 59 and continuing to page 60. • What does Shawn believe is necessary in order to truly experience love? • What would Shawn say is the difference between being known and being loved? Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

  3. Chapter 10 • How do Shawn and his brother and sister react differently to news that their father is going on The Alice Ponds Show?

  4. Chapters 7-10 • In Chapters 7-10, Shawn is forced to think about his future. Write what his father does/feels in the causes column and then write the effects in the effects column of these actions in a CAUSE AND EFFECT CHART. Cause and Effect Chart Causes Effects Shawn’s father is frustrated that Shawn can’t express himself. Shawn’s father leaves the family.

  5. On Your Own- HW Imagine that Shawn can suddenly communicate. Write a letter to a member of Shawn’s family, thinking about what information Shawn would want to share about his life. Your letter should: • Be written from Shawn’s point of view, using his voice and narration style • Be about a page in length
