Understanding Taxation: A Study of U.S. Tax History and State Tax Rates

This project explores the history of taxation in the United States, tracing back to the early years when internal taxes funded the government from 1791 to 1802. The impact of the War of 1812 led to the first taxes on luxury items. The creation of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue occurred in 1864. The project also examines current state tax rates, highlighting discrepancies in income tax policies across California, Hawaii, Utah, Nevada, and Washington, and discusses personal opinions on taxation.
