This course empowers future professionals—police officers, teachers, nurses, and administrators—by equipping them with critical skills to navigate and transform societal institutions that often prioritize self-preservation over individual welfare. Students will explore the pervasive ideologies contributing to institutional dysfunction in American society. Through engaging discussions, social action strategies, and a deeper understanding of social issues, participants will learn how to instigate positive change, while forging new connections and enhancing their communication skills for meaningful dialogue at home and beyond.

You, learning things: • Equip students with the skills to survive within institutions that protect themselves instead of the individuals within them. • Course is designed for the future police officer, administrator, nurse, or teacher as they enter social institutions that reward individuals who play an unspoken “game” that is contrary to the mission of the institution. • Identify the ideologies of broken institutions in American society in order to work toward changing them from within.

You might… • Become comfortable with social action • See how social problems intersect and how solving one problem creates another. • Learn that life isn’t a magical unicorn palace filled with free beer and fairy dust • Meet some cool new people to text, add to facebook • Be able to have better arguments with mom, dad, & grandparents at the dinner table • Leave the class with one simple lesson: “don’t piss on me and tell me it’s raining”
