  1. Introduction to Density • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvLlCEHtSOs • What is Density? • How do we finddensity? • Notes on Density: • http://exchange.smarttech.com/search.html?q=Love+that+Density&subject=All+subjects&grade=All+grades&region=en_US

  2. Finding Density • Density= Mass/Volume • Step one—Find the Mass of the object by weighing it. • Step 2—Find the volume by taking Length X Width X Height (For the most part, length is how long something is, Width is how wide something is and Height is how tall something is—but don’t get hung up on the definitions—just measure, write down the measurements, and multiple them to get your answer)

  3. Let’s practice • First you can only do this on cube or rectangular prism—something that has a length, width & height. (If you want to find the volume of a solid that has an irregular shape—you have to do something else.) • Let’s measure a snicker candy cube, a 3 musketeer cube and a milky way cube. Be sure to write down and label the measurements and multiply them together to find volume.

  4. Which would have more density, a snickers, 3 muskateer’s bar, or a milky way bar? • Hypothesis: If I compare all three snack candies, then ________________________ will have the most density, because _______________________________.

  5. Formula for Density • Now Let’s find the density by dividing the mass by the volume; • D=m/v • Which number goes inside the division sign or is entered in the calcularot first? • Which number is on the outside or goes into the calculator last? • Be sure to calculate for each candy bar. • What did you find out.

  6. Summing it All Up • Go back to your question and your hypothesis and your findings: • 1.. What was your question? • 2. What was your hypothesis (what did you think would happen?) • 3. What were your results. • Write about all this and also, write about what you learned and would like to learn more about—What questions do you still have?
