  6. Sociology of Knowledge What we know as “truth” is a product of the culture and historical context in which we exist. “Knowledge” itself is a human creation. If “knowledge” and “truth” are created by humans, than humans can perpetuate or change them. We can change “truth.” We can change “reality.”

  7. Contested Realities: Power • Power comes from the ability to control or influence the way a situation is defined or framed. • Reality construction is not democratic! • Powerful social actors can promote a version of reality that serves their interests.
