An extreme virus wave cleared Delhi on New Year's Day as the mercury dove to 1.1 degrees Celsius, the most minimal in 14 years, and "exceptionally thick" mist brought perceivability down to "zero" meters, influencing traffic development. On January 8, 2006, the city had recorded at least 0.2 degree Celsius. The least temperature recorded in January a year ago was 2.4 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
