Religious Dissenters: Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, and Thomas Hooker’s Legacy

Explore the impactful lives of key religious dissenters Roger Williams, Anne Hutchinson, and Thomas Hooker. Williams, banished for advocating religious freedom and the separation of church and state, founded Rhode Island. Hutchinson challenged Puritan doctrine with her belief in individual connection to God, leading to her banishment as well. Thomas Hooker, though not banished, sought greater suffrage and religious tolerance, establishing the Connecticut Colony. Together, they shaped a legacy of inclusion and democracy in early American colonies.
