  3. Some key points • All postgraduate students in the Faculty do this module • Common core of teaching • School-specific applications of the material • A module leader or co-ordinator for each School

  4. Aim • To give students the skills required to undertake research work for projects at postgraduate diploma and MSc level • by • Lecture input on core elements • Applying the learning in the context of a piece of work specified by the School or programme, e.g. • preparation of a research proposal • individual or group project • Delivery and assessment controlled at School level

Learning outcomes • Understand and apply principles of research to his/her field of study. • Understand and apply the principles of managing a research project. • Perform a literature review. • Organise and perform data collection, analysis and presentation. • Write and present a technical paper/report. • Understand the dynamics of team working and make a positive contribution to a team investigation. • Develop subject-specific skills as defined by programme

  7. Assessment • Coursework only • Two items, approximately weeks 9 and 14 • Usually comprises: • research proposal • project report plus appropriate deliverables
