  1. Latin root -mis or -mit -both come from the Latin verb mittere, which means to send Some of the words in this lesson will add a prefix and others will add a suffix.

  2. dismiss • Definition: 1. to send away or allow to leave 2. to reject or stop considering • Part of Speech: verb • Sentence: With a roll of her eyes, Deborah dismissed her mother’s suggestion to take an umbrella. (dis- away or apart)

  3. admission • Definition: the act of allowing to enter; entrance granted by permission or the price paid for entrance, as to a theater or ball park. • Part of Speech: noun I paid the admission for the fair. I had a great time. Valerie received her admission from the University of Alabama. She is so excited to start school there.

  4. emit • Definition: to send out energy or matter • Part of Speech: verb • Sentence: The scientists were concerned that the machine might emit harmful radiation.

  5. intermittent • Definition: stopping and starting; not continuous; periodic • Part of Speech: adjective • Sentence: The forecast was for a cloudy day with intermittent showers. (inter- between)

  6. missile • Definition: an object or a weapon sent to a target • Part of Speech: noun • Sentence: The missile was guided by radio waves.
