2. Creation • Adrian Ashley and MikkelKoser say that the Scanjam is “a response to a brief that exhorted us to think of radically new ways to use scanners.” • They used two scanners from photo copiers to create ‘bars’ on which opaque objects are placed to create sounds according to verticle placement, color, shape, and size. • A computer controls the scanners and the person ‘playing’ places the objects.

3. Goals • Koser and Ashley wanted disregard the purpose of scanners and abstract the way in which they were used. • Also to put some humanity into the making of electronic music • The scanjam provides a physical component to the making of electronic music. When performing, an audience can clearly see that the artist is creating something right in front of them.

4. How you Play • As mentioned before, the scanjam is made of two photocopier scanners. Each scanner is separated into four sections which serve as bars. • There is a computer attached to the scanners to control the movement of the scanners. • The person creating, would take objects and place them in various places on the scanners and their sound would be determined by color, size, shape, and vertical placement. • The sound is produced with the scanner head passes by the objects while one scanner plays, the other rewinds.
