  3. Two Types of Microscopes Simple microscope: contains only one lens Compound microscope: 2 or more lenses

  4. History of Microscopes • 1590-Zacharias and Hans Janssen made first compound microscope • 1660-Robert Hook made compound microscope with a lamp for lighting. • 1674- Anton van Leeuwenhoek simple microscope magnified a specimen up to 266 times.

  6. Rules when using microscope • Always carry with two hands (one on base, and one on neck) • Always focus away from the slide!!!!

  7. How to calculate magnification • Lens x objective = magnification • Example: 10 x 60 = 600 times magnification
