CPD - Brief History • CPD groundwork has been ongoing for 15 years. • Voluntary program was put in place in late 1990’s. • In 2003 Council recommended a mandatory program: • Rejected by membership in 2004 (59% voted in favour) • Approved by membership in 2007 (69% voted in favour) • Specific Act revisions sent to govt. in early 2008. • Revisions approved by legislature in late 2009, expected to be proclaimed effective June 24, 2010.

  3. Why are we doing this? • the public expects us to have a CPD program, and (2) mobility in Canada will be dependent on our association having a CPD program.

  4. CPD Committee Info • CPD committee formed in early 2010. • Broad representation, including Consulting. • Reviewing the CPD Policy and comparing to other Associations. • “Model Policy” is being developed. • Committee will be hosting CPD events in the future, in collaboration with other committees.

  5. CPD Program Details • 80 professional development hours/year required. • Professional practice counts towards yearly total. • Yearly declaration of program compliance is required. • Forms not required to be sent in. • No formal audit process at start of program. • Exemptions for Life/Honorary Life and Retired Non-Practicing members. • EITs are required to be compliant with program.

  6. Next Steps • CPD Committee continues to work on the “Model Policy”. • Awaiting June 24th proclamation date. • CPD Committee continues work on program implementation details.
