Prevention Needs Assessment (PNA) Survey • Measures risk and protective factors, the prevalence of drug use and other antisocial behaviors • Repeated administration helps to assess trends over time • Indicates prevention and intervention needs • Assists in program evaluation and grant applications • Drug Free Communities (DFC) Support Program grant requirement

National Comparison: Monitoring the Future • Survey of 8th, 10th, 12th graders • Conducted yearly for the past 38 years, funded by National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) • Latest survey (2012 results): • 45,400 students surveyed • 395 public and private high schools and middle schools. • Representative cross section of students throughout United States Source: Johnston, L.   9. Inhalant UseSniffed glue, breathed the contents of an aerosol spray can, or inhaled other gases or sprays in order to get high during the past 30 days?

  10. GambledIn the past year (12 months), did you bet any money or other things of value, on the results of a card game, sporting event, lottery ticket, Internet gambling, video poker, dice, race, bingo, or other games?

Perception of Risk (Moderate or Great Risk) How much do you think people risk themselves (physically or in other ways) if they:- take one or two drinks of an alcoholic beverage (beer, wine, liquor) nearly every day?- smoke one or more packs of cigarettes per day?- smoke marijuana once or twice a week?- use prescription drugs that are not prescribed to them?
