  1. Sun hats For Albury School

  2. The Beginning • At our WAVE Health group meeting, one of the topics discussed was our sunhats. We recently became a Sunsmart School (see our posters)and thought that although our hats covered us well, they were starting to get well worn. We took the idea of getting new sunhats to our School Council Meeting.

  3. The Albury School WAVE Health Team Our old hats are getting old and worn

  4. The Council Meeting • The School Council thought the idea of new sunhats was a good idea and discussed it with our Principal, Mr Heaphy. • Mr Heaphy agreed with the idea and said he would approach the Home and School on our behalf.

  5. Home and School The Home and School committee were all in favour of the sunhats being replaced and appointed one of the parents to inquire about varieties available and the costs. When the information was collected the information was given to the Health Team The Home and School also had some questions for the School Council and WAVE Team. We have found three types of Sun Hats. Which type do the children prefer? What do you want on the hat? Do you want “Albury School” or the School Logo? How many hats do you want? What sizes do you need?

  6. Health Team Surveys • The WAVE Team surveyed the School because we thought it was important that the whole school was involved in the process and received the following results: • Type: A) slouch hat (1) B) legionaires hat (3) C) wide brim hat (30) • Albury School ( ) or Logo ( √ ) • Number of hats and sizes: (Get help from the Home and School)

  7. WAVE Support • We discussed our results with our WAVE facilitator Greg Newton. He thought that WAVE , the South Canterbury District Health Board and Sunsmart (Kate Johnson) could work together to help with advice and some of the funding. • The WAVE Team helped support the Home and School with the rest of the fund raising.

  8. The Final Stages • We gave the survey information to the Home and School committee and the Hats were ordered. • We waited … and waited … and waited • And FINALLY …

  9. OUR NEW SUN HATS ! Thanks WAVE
