  1. Machine Specific Courses Course: PVSS Vacuum Control for the PS complex Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC/ICM Section March 11th 2009

  2. Summary • History • Complex PS including Clex • SPS • LHC • Main functionalities • Demonstration • Conclusion Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009

  3. History • Since 2002, Vacuum group homogenize their control system by using the same hardware (Siemens PLCs and power supplies) and the same software (PVSS Servers) on all accelerators. • It started in 2002 by SPS followed by LEIR (2005), LHC (2006) and complex PS in 2008. • PS Machine will be the next one if possible during shutdown 2009-10. • The main advantage is an important reduction of maintenance problems, interventions and spares management. The complex PS, the SPS and the 4 LHC vacuum control systems are identically. Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009

  4. Complex PS Contents: • Ion pumps, Pirani/Penning gauges and sectors valves for Linac2&3, PSB, lines TT2, lines BI-BT and BTY, and LEIR. Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009

  5. PS Linux Version Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009

  6. Clex Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009

  7. SPS and Transfer Lines Contents: • SPS, North area and CNGS ion pumps, Piranni/Penning gauges and sectors valves • TI2 and TI8 ion pumps and sectors valves Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009

  8. LHC Contents: • The QRL and Cryo Vacuum systems with triplet of gauges and fixed pumping groups • The 2 beam vacuum systems with Pirani/Penning gauges, ion gauges, ion pumps, mobil equipments (pumping groups or bakeout racks) and sector valves • The 2 dump lines with Pirani/Pening gauges, ion pumps and sector valves • The 4 experimental areas with vacuum equipment and Gas Injection System. In LHCb, Velo is specific. Isabelle Laugier, TE/VSC March 11th 2009
