  1. Two Beam Test Stand Roger Ruber for the Uppsala/CLIC Group CTF3 Collaboration Meeting CERN, 17 January 2006

  2. Two Beam Test Stand chicane for measurement breakdown current Walter’s talk CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  3. Breakdown Current Measurement • probe beam ~180 MeV e- • breakdown current ~1 MeV e- • Proposal to add small chicane upstream: • 1 extra dipole (standard CTF3 corrector) • vacuum chamber with • moveable Faraday cup • current measurement • momentum measurement through angular resolution • silicon detector strip • accurate position resolution <100 μm • can be commercial or LHC type (t.b.d.) • Downstream option will be kept open … CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  4. Beam Lines • quadrupole triplets • 12 ordered from Scanditronix • delivery expected end May • dipole correctors • 8+1 CTF3 (MHVC) type(maybe Scanditronix) • shielded ports/bellows/valves • for upstream drive beam, similar as TL2 & CR • beam dump • 2 dipole magnets (MDX type) • graphite or segmented dump(t.b.d.) CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  5. Beam Transport dump dipole • MAD-X calculations • β-functions • optimize to 1m at test table • FDF triplets for smaller βx • focus at dump for optimized momentum resolution • 2 dipoles upstream for aiming at table • 2 dipoles downstream, maybe 1 enough? • Dispersion function • shows effect dipole before beam dump • extend dump line (now 0.6m)to increase momentum resolution? CALIFESquads & dipole CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  6. Vacuum • valves decouple the • experimental table • ion pumps 40 l/s • 1 upstream • 2 downstream • P <10-7 mbar • lower with improved • out-gassing → P x 0.1 • beam pipe • probe beam = stainless • drive beam = aluminium • failure pump near table→ P x 10 CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  7. Beam Instrumentation • position measurement • 2x5 inductive BPMs, CTF3 type • all components have been ordered • IPU electronics being assembled • expected errors σBPM ≈ 10 μmwith 5 BPMs per beam line • position: 0.95σ • angle: 0.61σ/m • energy measurement • with spectrometer dipole before the beam dump • BPM • OTR screens • design being prepared (CEA) • segmented beam dump optional • breakdown current measurement • by BPMs or chicane CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  8. Components • Power supplies • 2 for spectrometer dipoles • 8x2 +1 for corrector dipoles • 2 ch/dipole, except extra dipole for chicane • 12 for quadrupoles • will be ordered soon through AB/PO(Roger Genand) • Vacuum components • valves, pumps, gauges, bellows, flanges • upstream in the drive beam all shielded • will be ordered when detailed design ready through AT/VAC (Jan Hansen) CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  9. Work to be prepared from now on • Beam lines • design drawingsincluding positioning of all components • design vacuum chambers and ports • supports for equipment and tables • Breakdown Current Chicane • design associated vacuum chamber • design and test detectors • Uppsala facility up to 300 keV e- CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand

  10. Conclusions • Basic layout known, a lot of work remains: • detailed design for installation • order & assembly components • chicane + detectors for breakdown studies • In December we shall have a nice TBTS! • supported by the Swedish Science Counciland the Wallenberg Foundation CTF3 Collaboration Meeting - Two Beam Test Stand
