  2. PSALM 33

  3. 1 Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. 2 Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings! 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts

  4. 4 For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. 5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.

  5. 6 By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!

  6. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. 11 The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations.

  7. 12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! The 13 LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; 14 from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, 15 he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.

  8. 16 The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. 17 The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.

  9. 18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, 19 that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. 22 Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

  11. A CALL TO GLADNESS v. 1-5 • What is the chief end of man? • To glorify God and enjoy Him forever • To glorify God BY ENJOYING HIM forever. (Piper)

  12. P-R-A-I-S-E • Sing joyfully • Praise • Give thanks • Make music

  13. Sing a new song • Play skillfully • Shout with joy- it’s ok if it’s loud

  14. “The best things happen while you’re praising.” • While we’re praising, we can’t grumble, lie, and complain, we can’t run down others with our tongues, we tend to worry less while we’re praising God. Praise is becoming to the people of God.

  15. Five attributes of God and His Word • Upright • Faithful/ truth • Righteous • Just • Full of lovingkindness • Creator by speaking

  16. WORSHIP THE CREATOR,COMMANDER and COUNSELOR V. 6-17 • Fear and Awe v. 8 • A popular definition of the fear of God is “reverential awe”

  17. What is AWE? •  -an emotion in which dread, veneration and wonder are variously mingled. • -submissive and admiring fear inspired by authority • -A fearful reverence inspired by deity

  18. “The fear of God is the soul of godliness” • John Murray

  19. “The fear of God in which godliness consists is the fear which constrains adoration and love. It is the fear which consists in awe, reverence, honor, and worship, and all of these on the highest level of exercise. It is the reflex in our consciousness of the transcendent majesty and holiness of God.”

  20. Our great and gracious God is engaged with us; He does not stand aloof and detached. • NO DEISM ZONE

  21. HOPE IN THE LORD V. 18-22 • His watchful caring eye is on us • The height of OT blessing is for God’s face to be upon us. • Hope is a calm confidence in the God who is our creator and commander of providence.
