  3. Definition • “Person with a disability that limits or impairs the ability to walk” means any person with a disability who meets any of the following conditions: • Cannot walk 200 feet or more without stopping to rest. • Cannot walk without the use of, or assistance from, another person or a brace, cane, crutch, prosthetic device, wheelchair or other assistive device. • Is restricted by lung disease that impairs their ability to walk. • Has a cardiac condition to the extent that functional limitations are classified. • Is severely limited in the ability to walk due to an arthritic, neurological or orthopedic condition. • Information referenced from WI Statute 340.01(43g)

  4. Disabled Parking General Information “Permanent” cards (for persons with a permanent disability) are blue in color and are valid for 4 years from the date of issue. There is no fee for a Permanent DISID card.

  5. Disabled Parking General Information Persons with permanent DISID cards will be notified every 4 years when their cards will expire and will be required to re-certify their eligibility for special parking privileges. This is intended to deter abuse of privileges by those who do not qualify for disabled parking.

  6. Disabled Parking General Information “Temporary” cards (for persons with a temporary disability) are red in color and are valid from 1 month to no more than 6 six months from date of issue. The fee for a temporary DISID card is $6 per card.

  7. How does the DMV determine who is eligible? • The DMV does not make the decisions on who qualifies for the disabled products. This is based on decisions made by the following Health Care Specialist licensed to practice in any state: • Physician • Podiatrist • Advanced Practice Nurse • Chiropractor • Public Health Nurse • Physician Assistant who is licensed or certified • Christian Science practitioner residing in Wisconsin

  8. WIN - Disabled Parking Project https://app.wi.gov/disabledparking The Disabled Parking Certification System allows Wisconsin Health Care Specialists to submit eligibility certification for Disabled Parking Permits (Temporary and Permanent) and Disabled License Plates online. Certification is sent directly to the Wisconsin Division of Motor Vehicles and is updated in real-time to the applicant’s record.
