What is Accreditation? • Status granted to an educational institution for satisfactorily meeting or exceeding stated criteria for educational quality. • In compliance with ACCJC/WASC accjc.org • Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. • The ACCJC Commission is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the Council on Higher Education.

  4. Purpose of Self Study • Provide quality assurance to the public and community that Mission College is meeting and exceeding the standards for higher education. • Accomplished through the process of: • Institutional Self Study • Peer Review • ACCJC Commission Review • Promote institutional improvement • Self acknowledgement of accomplishments • Acknowledgement of weaknesses that need improvement

Institutional Standards • Four unique standards that Mission College must reflect satisfactorily or exceed. • Updated version of Standards • Originally 10 standards • Currently 4 Standards that encompass sub standards within each • Must be written to apply broadly to encompass diversity within the institution. • Reflect best practice in higher education.
