  1. MORMONISM BELIEFS

  2. ORIGINS • Joseph Smith founder- Came to him in visions. According to Mormons he was a prophet. • Later in life he took over Brigham Young University (BYU). • BYU today is a Mormon college.

  3. TID BITS • Mormons or Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. • Claim to be the only church. • “If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation outside the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints (Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, pg. 670).

  4. SOURCES OF AUTHORITY • Book of Mormon- Supposedly an account of the original inhabitants of America to whom Christ appeared after His resurrection. • Doctrine and Covenant- Record of 138 revelations revealing some of Mormonism distinctive doctrines such as baptism for the dead and Cel. Marriage.

  5. SOURCES OF AUTHORITY • Pearl of Great Prize- Extract from history and some Bible. • Holy Bible • Takes many books to tell what they believe.

  6. GOD • God was married. “God the Father is married and there is a Mother God” ( Answers to the Gospel Questions, Joseph Smith). • Hasn’t always been here. • Body of flesh and bones.

  7. GOD • So to summarize this section on God the Father of the Mormons, God has a body of flesh and bones, and wasn't always eternal, but is an exalted man. His name is Elohim, and was possibly at one stage Adam.

  8. GOD There are many other Gods with him. He is married, possibly with many wives, and has had millions of spirit children. He organized (NB: He Didn't 'Create') the planet earth, and populated it with these spirit children.

  9. JESUS CHRIST • Just a Spirit • Brother of Lucifer • Jesus was married (Orsen Hyde) They will tell you it’s not official doctrine. • No one can be “exalted to eternal life” without being married so that is why Jesus had to be married (Doctrine & Covenants 132:7, 13, 15-16, 19-22). • Man can be own godhead in the kingdoms.

  10. JESUS CHRIST • "But man may commit certain grievous sins - according to his light and knowledge - that will place him beyond the reach of the atoning blood of Christ. If then he would be saved he must make sacrifice of his own life to atone - so far as in his power lies - for that sin, for the blood of Christ alone under certain circumstances will not avail. Do you believe this doctrine? If not, then I do say you do not believe in the true doctrine of the atonement of Christ!"(18Smith, Joseph F. Doctrines of Salvation: Sermons and Writings of Joseph Feilding Smith . • Jesus death not enough.

  11. SALVATION • Salvation- Articles 2 and 3 of the Mormon Articles of Faith. • We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. One comes to God through accepting and works. • Internet dialogue.

  12. HEAVEN AND HELL • No such thing as hell. • Each person goes 1 of 3 places. • Celestial Kingdom- Top. You have done the best. Closest to God. • Terrestrial- those who failed the requirements of exaltation • Celestial- those who have no testimony of Christ.

  13. BAPTISM AFTER DEATH • Baptism for Mormons is a must for salvation. • “Many people have died without receiving a valid baptism, and they cannot undergo this precious ritual as mere spirits. "

  14. BAPTISM AFTER DEATH Because all on the earth do not have the opportunity to accept the gospel during mortality, the Lord has authorized baptisms performed by proxy for the dead. Therefore, those who accept the gospel in the spirit world may qualify for entrance into God's kingdom“ (http://www.ldschurchtemples.com/mormon/baptism/ )

  15. MORMONS IN TALKING AND IN DIALOGUE WITH MORMONS THIS WEEK, THIS INFO. WAS CONFIRMED.
