  2. What I Did • I attended the Learning Zone every Wednesday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. • The child I tutored was Brayan Medina • He is in a second grade bilingual class

  3. We usually worked on Brayan’s Spanish and English spelling words

  4. Children learn in various ways and have different needs and Brayan is an example of this. Manipulatives really helped Brayan visualize borrowing with double digits.

  5. Brayan implementing the seven words in a sentence strategy When I first met Brayan, he was averaging five words per sentence and by the end of the semester he was averaging nine words. I was very impressed and proud that he liked to go above and beyond what he was used to.

  6. Brayan and I implementing my cross- curricular board game “Jungle Fun”

  7. My meaning of my experience at the Learning Zone

  8. I truly believe that the Learning Zone makes a difference in the life of each of the children who attend regularly. Since the kiddos are given individualized attention, their needs and particular learning styles are accommodated and the end result speaks for itself.

  9. Reflection What I can take from this experience is that parent involvement is very important in the education of children. How does parent involvement tie into the Learning Zone experience? Well the parents of each of the kids and in my case Brayan’s parents, realized that their child needed individualized help and that they would benefit from it and made the decision to bring their child to the Learning Zone. As a future educator this will help me build my knowledge in the ways children interact and what their needs are and how the home life affects the way children perform and behave at school. As a teacher you have to be well rounded to be able to help your kids succeed not only academically but in life as well.

  10. Brayan represents the type of children that I want to teach and learn with. During the time that I have spent with Brayan I have gained valuable experience that will help me in the coming future.
