EARNINGS: - SANTANDER: Tue, 31/01/2012 - 07:13 Its earnings fell 35% in 2011 due to increased provisions to address the deteriorating real estate assets in Spain. - TELEFONICA: May 13, 2011 7:21 a.m. CDT The operator Telefonica reported that during the first quarter earnings Increase 1.9%, compared to same period in 2010, reaching 1,624 million euros. - BBVA: October 26, 2011 - 8:31 BBVA announced a net profit of 804 million euros in the third quarter, down from 29.5% a year. - ENDESA: 08.11.2011 The lower capital gains cut earnings by 27.3% of Endesa Endesa reduced its profit by 27.3% between January and September, to 1.978 million euros. - REPSOL: Thu, 10/11/2011 - 07:05 Its net operating profit (EBIT) adjusted rose by 5.7% (U.S. $ 1.649 million) 1,202 million euros.

  7. The Unión General de Trabajadores (UGT, General Union of Workers) is a major Spanish trade union, historically affiliated with the PSOE. • Founded in 1888.

  8. HISTORY • The UGT was founded by a group of twenty-six delegates representing 44 companies of trades, the August 12, 1888 in Barcelona at a conference held at the ‘’TeatroJovellanos’’, coinciding with the celebration of the Universal Exposition of Barcelona in 1888 .

Objectives • The UGT declares itself to be an institution of productive workers, organized along lines of trades and liberal professions, which respects freedom of thought, leading toward the transformation of the society, in order to establish it on the basis of social justice, equality and solidarity.

  11. Theproposals of the ‘indignados’: They are a varied group of citizens, including many social groups. They carry out non-violent/ peaceful protests occupying public places.

Objectives: • Focus on seven-point demands including the fight against unemployment, the right to housing, the control of the banking sector, tax reforms, elimination of class privileges and protection of public policy and civil liberties. • So far, they haven’t achieved anything important, but the system knows that the indignados are here, and that they can act at any time. They are able to raise awareness of different issues and causes. Occupy London: Developed into a non-violent protest and demonstration against economic inequality. Its original remit however was to unite workers and unemployed alike in order to bring to the fore, the lack of affordability of housing in the United Kingdom, social injustice, corporate greed and the influence of companies and lobbyists on government taking place in London.

Lobbying in the European Union They installed lobbyists in Brussels to defend EU interests in issues including: rights for European women, the demands of consumers, the introduction of certain genetically modified products, regulation of telecommunications, the aspirations of the pharmaceutical industry.The most established lobbies in Europe are: -Unice (official voice of the European industry since 1958),-the European Round Table of Industrialists, the Competitivness Advisory Group,-the Union of Industrial and Employers,-The Confederation of Europe,-The American Chamber of Commerce,-the U.S. Council for International Business,-the International Life Sciences Institute,-the European Policy Center,Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue and the CAG (Advisory Group on Competitiveness)
