Stockholm University • One of the largest universities in Sweden and one of the largest employers in the capital. • More than 50,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 1,800 post graduate students and 6,000 employees. • Four faculties; Humanities, Law and the Natural and Social sciences. • Located in the middle of the first national city park in the world and is characterised by natural beauty, unique architecture and contemporary art and sculpture. • Four researchers at Stockholm University have been awarded the Nobel Prize. • Svante Arrhenius, 1903 (Chemistry) • Hans von Euler Chelpin, 1929 (Chemistry) • George de Hevesy, 1943 (Chemistry) • Paul Crutzen, 1995 (Chemistry) Gunnar Myrdal received the Sveriges Riksbanks Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. • The vision for Stockholm University is that by 2015 the majority of teaching and research programmes will be nationally outstanding and internationally prominent. School of Business • Founded in 1962. • Educates future business leaders and managers for careers in both the private and public sector. • One of the largest departments at Stockholm University, belongs to the Faculty of Social Sciences. • Some 3,500 students, of which 2,200 are full-time students. • Some 100 staff, about 70 academic staff and 30 administrative staff. About 30 PhD students. • Kräftriket dates back to 1912 – former veterinary college, beautifully located near the picturesque "Brunnsviken" lake. The area is within walking distance of Stockholm city centre.

  5. Some key events in the School of Business’ history: 1962. Stockholm University School of Business is founded. 1966. The School’s first professor is appointed. 1969. The School’s first PhD is awarded. 1987. Four research institutes are established, of which the Institute for Local Government Research is still active. 1996. The Journal of Human Resource Costing and Accounting (JHRCA) on Emerald is founded by School faculty members. 1998. The School launches its first Executive MBA programme. 2000. The School moves to its own campus in Kräftriket. 2002. The School hosts the 2nd EURAM (European Academy of Management) Conference in Stockholm 2002. The Academy for Performance Management in Central Government is founded. 2006. The School of Business alumni Mr Fredrik Reinfeldt is elected Prime Minister of Sweden. 2007. The School implements the Bologna Accord, and launches three 2-year MSc programmes. 2007. The School is authorized by the National Agency of Higher Education to offer the Degree of Master of Science in Business and Economics (3+1 year MSc programme) 2009. The School becomes the host institution when Stockholm University joins the Stockholm School of Entrepreneurship (SSES).

Academic programmes • Bachelor Programmes (3 years): Accounting and Finance, Marketing and Management, Business Administration and Political Science. • Master Programmes (2 years): Accounting, Auditing and Analysis, Banking and Finance, Consumer and Business Marketing, Public Management and Management Studies, Strategic IT Management together with the Department of Computer and Systems Sciences. • Single subject courses • Executive MBA Programme in Swedish • Areas of speciality; Accounting, Finance, Management/Organisation and Marketing

Research • Research in Social Science, based on four sub-disciplines within business administration: - Accounting- Finance- Management/Organisation- Marketing • Some examples of research programmes in which the School of Business is currently involved: - Metropolitan branding - Managing healthy organisations - The capital market’s use of intellectual capital - Financial Risk Management and Derivatives - Entrepreneurial work facing management routines - Performance Management in Central Government • All programmes are based on the most recent developments in research.
