Click on Register to set up your account Register your Account • Register at www.ahvrp.org, so that • you will gain access to all of the • ‘Members Only’ areas of both the • AHVRP and the American • Hospital Association websites. Once registered, you will also be able to update your profile, access your Membership ID number, renew membership, purchase publications, and register for events (including audio conferences/webinars and the annual conference).

  4. Register Your Account: After clicking on Register, enter your email address associated with your membership or enter your AHVRP Member ID #. You will then be asked to confirm your account information and a temporary password and link will be emailed to you. This link will direct you to create a new password and access your profile. Save this password and use it to log in AHVRP’s website. Enter email address as your username or enter your member id # Please contact AHVRP if you have any problems at 312-422-3939.

  6. What is a LISTSERV® • LISTSERV® is an e-mail communication forum that allows members to exchange ideas, share experiences, and gain valuable information about their field. Ask questions and receive immediate answers! • AHVRP currently offers members three LISTSERV® subscriptions: • DVS General LISTSERV® (over 650 subscribers) • Retail/Gift Shop LISTSERV® (over 150 subscribers) • New Hospice LISTSERV® • To subscribe to a LISTSERV’®, please send an e-mail to ahvrp@aha.org requesting a subscription to any or all of the LISTSERV’s®. You can also request to receive one weekly email in a digest format. The default subscription emails you questions as posted. • Once subscribed, you will receive an email from LISTSERV® with directions on how to access your account (separate username and password from AHVRP) and how to submit a message. Learn more, including how to access archived questions.

  7. Audio Conferences • For just one low price, you, your entire staff and others at your site can access valuable content presented in 90-minute audio conferences. Presentation handouts, call information, and accompanying materials will be provided for the audio conferences. Members are given the discounted audio conference price of $99! • Why You Should Say Y-E-S to Audio-Conferences? • You get quality education and earn Continuing Education Units (per purchase). • Expands your education dollars when multiple staff participate for the cost of only one registration. • Saves money on staff travel and time away from the office. • If you are not able to attend the live call, you can also purchase the archive (audio recording plus handouts and CEU’s). AHVRP also offers members three pre-selected free audio conferences each year.

  8. Mentoring Program • AHVRP's mentoring program matches mentors and mentees based on • their job requirements, career goals/expertise, and hospital type. The • six month program includes a minimum of two phone calls per month • between mentor/mentee and completion of an evaluation survey near • the end of the program. • Learn more about mentor/mentee benefits, qualifications, and the • application process.

Retail & Gift Shop Tools • AHVRP continues to add new tools that assist members who also oversee and work in hospital retail gift shops. • Here is a list of some helpful tools specific to the retail field: • Trade shows listings to help with your trade show search. • Retail Listserv® to communicate about retail specific topics. • Retail-specific audio conferences including topics such as: using social media to promote your gift shop, balancing dual hats as DVS and gift shop manager, marketing merchandise, and much more! • Retail track (five concurrent sessions) offered at the annual AHVRP conference specific to retail gift shops, as well as a retail pre-conference intensive workshop.

  10. Hospice Tools • AHVRP continues to add new tools that assist members who work in a hospice. Whether you are new in the service, or have been involved for many years, continuing education is vital to the hospice professional. • Here is a list of some helpful tools specific to the hospice field: • Hospice LISTSERV® to communicate about hospice specific topics. • Hospice-specific audio conferences including topics such as: leadership and management tools, care giving burnout and fatigue, and how volunteers are the secret agents for HCAHPS improvement.

  11. DVS Toolkit The DVS Toolkit is an on-line resource that will support you in advocating for your leadership position and promote the value of your program within your healthcare organization. As a member benefit, this exciting on-line toolkitprovides a strong foundation of valuable resources and tools to assist you in further preparation for the CAVS exam, management reporting, benchmarking, program evaluation and much more. Get a quick snapshot of all that is available in the toolkit by reviewing the Toolkit at a Glance. Retail and Hospice toolkits are coming soon.

  12. Monthly Newsletter: News You Can Use • AHVRP communicates with its members on a regular basis. Be sure • AHVRP has your e-mail address, so you can benefit from • this monthly communication. AHVRP never sells member • e-mail addresses. • This enlightening monthly electronic news service provides members with the latest news in healthcare and volunteer service administration. This newsletter will also keep you up-to-date on upcoming AHVRP events and promotions. • Read archived issues of the NYCU dating back to January 2011.

  13. Member Directory • Access the online Member • Directory to network with any of • the 1,200 peers who call AHVRP • their professional home. You can • search by last name, state, or • organization name. • AHVRP never sells member email addresses.

  14. AHVRP Career Center • The Career Center is an interactive job board that offers its members in the • healthcare volunteer services and retail operations field an easy-to-use and highly • targeted resource for online employment connections. Members can use this free • service that provides access to employers and jobs in the healthcare field. Job • seekers can post their resumes, browse and view available jobs based on their criteria • and save those jobs for later review. Job seekers can also create a search agent to • provide email notifications of jobs that match their criteria. • Employers can post jobs online, search for qualified candidates based on specific job • criteria, and create an online resume agent to email qualified candidates daily. They • also benefit from online reporting that provides job activity statistics. • Learn more about the AHVRP Career Center.

Principles • The Principles Course consists of up to 6 modules offered in 1 ½ hour segments at • Chapter Conferences and at the AHVRP Annual Conference.  For the experienced • volunteer administrator, The Principles Course reviews the fundamental building • blocks of a dynamic program, re-tooled to better meet the changing needs of today’s • health care facilities. For the new manager, it is an opportunity to learn, relearn, • discuss and experience the rationale behind volunteer program design. • Principles is also an in-depth training and development tool for AHVRP members who • are planning to pursue their CAVS Certification.  The mix of both experienced and • new administrators in the field offers a unique forum for examining what we do and • how we do it. The Principles Course provides insight and direction into how volunteer • services can impact organization goals and support changes and challenges in the • health care Industry. • Learn more about Principles’ FAQ’s including a list of the 6 modules. 

  17. Certified Administrator of Volunteer Services (CAVS) • CAVS Certification provides both internal and external rewards. With this certification you will enjoy the pride of recognition of being among the elite in a critical field of healthcare.  CAVS is a premier credential based on a sound assessment that provides distinction in an increasingly competitive marketplace.   19. Chapters • Chapters are regional, state or metropolitan organizations of Directors of Volunteer Services who enter into written agreements of affiliation with AHVRP. The purpose of affiliation is to provide an organized structure that will enable AHVRP members to work together on problems of mutual interest; conduct educational programs; serve as a resource to related healthcare associations; provide channels of communications between AHVRP, the chapters • and its members; and to promote the purpose of and membership of AHVRP. • Chapters provide valuable links between healthcare administrators of volunteer services In close geographic proximity. Improved communications and cooperation between members enhances national membership and gives members opportunities to provide input and develop professionally. • Questions? How You Can Get Involved • AHVRP seeks volunteers to participate in various AHVRP sponsored committees and task forces.  We know that people who get the most out of their membership also give the most by participating in AHVRP initiatives. Position yourself for a truly rewarding volunteer and networking experience.  By participating in AHVRP committees and task forces, you can gain personal satisfaction as well as the knowledge that your work will help promote the profession and your professional association in Leading America’s Healthcare Volunteers. • Visit the list of our committees to learn about the various opportunities for involvement. AHVRP sends out a Call for Volunteers annually, requesting new volunteers to fill committee and task force roles. • AHVRP also sends out a Call for Leaders in April, requesting members to run for President-Elect, Board At Large, and Nominations Committee positions.
