  2. What do they do? • Forensic Science - a branch of medicine used for legal purposes and concerned with determining cause of death, examination of injuries due to crime and negligence, and examination of tissue samples relevant to crimes.

  3. What do they do? • These professional scientists work with police and law enforcement to assist with the identification of persons, missing or victim of crime.

  4. What do they do? A. They collect evidence of alleged crime B. Assist in identification of victims C. Determine cause of injury or death D. Help with prevention of reoccurrence

  5. What do they do? E. Offer legal testimony in court and expert witnesses F. Perform medical tests G. Perform autopsies

  6. Tools They Use • Microscope • Computer • Scales • Medical equipment • Laboratory equipment

  7. Working Conditions • In a laboratory or hospital, often in shifts. • May work nights, weekends, or holidays. • May have to be “on call” (have to come to a crime scene when called). • May work in the field.

  9. Training Required • Bachelor Degree Minimum. Most require advanced degree or additional certification.
