"Most people would rather die than think; in fact, they do so“(Bertrand Russell, 1872-1970) • Students were simply memorizing material presented, rather than learning to understand. • What are the concepts that my students should investigate about the subjectin four years? • What specific information, skills, values, and experiences do we want our students to remember from the class?

  6. Educational Strategy Understanding is the capacity to apply facts, concepts and skills in new situations in appropiate ways (Howard Gardner)

  7. How??? • To teach by questioning rather than telling. • To teach by showing rather than explaining. • What questions will open the door to understanding and facilitate the understanding “to stick”? • Force students to develop their questioning skills….

  8. Imagine a sheet of paper folded in half, and in half again, and so on for 50 times. How tall do you think the folded paper would be?

  9. Do not jump in conclusion immediately! ~150.000.000 km!!! What would you be able to do if you had this information? ?

  10. How can IA Boards Help us TO ACHIEVE DEEP UNDERSTANDING? Satisfy students' needs reinforcement, provocation, higher motivation making learning more visual having students to participate making teaching inductive provide different explanations interactive (more individual formative assessment ) positive emotions to enhance learning.

  13. Being energetic in teaching is a motivating factor in itself; adding energy to the ideas you want to convey will further enhance learning and commitment to the ideas.
