Welcome to the Broward County Public Schools Office of Talent Development! This session covers the newly integrated Field Experience System designed to support aspiring teachers by connecting them with teacher mentors. We'll discuss roles, responsibilities, new staff introductions, and essential resources including upcoming orientation dates and the process for pre-service teacher placements. Our goal is to cultivate a community of learner-teachers by building capacity within schools and providing support to instructional coaches. Office of Talent Development • HRD is now the Office of Talent Development • Dr. Elisa Calabrese, Chief Talent Development Officer • Linda Whitehead, Director, Teacher Development • Deborah Porter, Coordinator, Teacher Development • Belinda K. Williams, Clerk Specialist • Instructional Facilitators – provide support to schools
SL and FEC Contact • All schools need to identify the NESS School Liaison • Provide the name of the Field Experience Contact if different
SL Role • Build capacity within a school to support a community of teacher learners • Facilitate NESS Support Group for Instructional Coaches and Developing Teachers • Coach/mentor Instructional Coaches • Enter and maintain accurate IC/NE assignment database
SL Role • SL Orientation dates and times: • Sept. 5th at NAO/Student Services 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. • Sept. 13th at Talent Development TR2 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. • Each school has been assigned a new Teacher Development contact person for support and assistance
FEC Role • SL and FEC positions are now combined unless directed by the principal • Collaborate with college/university contacts in placing all pre-service teachers • Ensure timely and appropriate FE placements via web-based database • Communicate with principal, cooperating teachers and college/university supervisors • Coach/mentor cooperating teachers • Maintain accurate information in database for eligible and available school personnel to host pre-service teachers
New Field Experience System • Beginning SY 2012-13, all field experience placements will be entered via the new system • All BCPS have the capacity to accept field experience and student teachers • The system will streamline placement processes • College/university contacts will be selecting schools for placements • Teacher Development will continue as the liaison to BCPS and all colleges and universities
Field Experience System • Placements are critical to the development of pre-service teachers • Fall 2012 - Sense of Urgency • FAU - 90 hr. practicum students • NSU - all students

Field Experience System • Click Clear Form • Click the drop-down box to retrieve your school.

Field Experience System • At the bottom, Drag and Drop the subjects this teacher teaches from the right box to the left box (1 at a time:
Field Experience System • Click Save and then OK and continue adding teachers. Must click Clear Form first.
Field Experience System • To Search for Existing Teachers: • Click Clear Form • Chose School • Click Search • Teachers added will appear in left column • To modify fields (except the name of the teacher), highlight teacher and make changes in fields.
Field Experience System • To Search Placements click Placements on homepage:
Field Experience System • In the top panel choose School and click Search:
Field Experience System Placements Pending Action: • Placements will appear in the grid in the center panel • Click a row on the grid to highlight a placement • Details will for this placement will appear in the right panel
Field Experience System • To Make a Placement (after highlighting the placement in the center): • Move to the right panel • Choose Teacher from the drop-down menu • Click Place or Decline

Field Experience System • What do you need to do now? • 1. Discuss Field Experience for your school with your principal to determine procedures and identify teacher mentors • 2. Add mentor teachers to Field Experience System • 3. Monitor Field Experience System daily! • 4. Ask for help – all schools have assigned Teacher Development support staff • 5.
