  2. EKG Sensor and Exercise Heart Rate Monitor Ways to test heart rate with the two probes: • Jumping jacks • Walking • Resting • Drinking a caffeinated beverage* (this will be our focus for the project)

  3. Definition of Caffeine Intake On average, how many caffeinated beverages do you drink per day, including soda, coffee and tea (0-4 per week, 1-2 per day, 3+ per day)?

  4. Project Objectives Each group receives a different can of soda: Jolt Cola, Coca-cola, Pepsi and Sprite. Their objective is to see how each beverage affects their resting heart rate. To do so, each group should test the resting heart rate of one individual and compare this data to their heart rate after drinking the appropriate can of soda.

Questions: • What is the student’s average resting heart rate? • What is the student’s average heart rate after drinking the can of soda? • How does the intake of caffeine affect your heart rate? Provide support for your data. • Would the student’s level of caffeine intake be a factor in measuring their heart rate? • What other factors may contribute to a change in heart rate?
