  2. What is the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities? The North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities (NCCDD) is part of a national network of organizations that assist people with developmental disabilities. NCCDD’s role in NC's Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) network is to promote a community service and supports delivery system that is personalized to meet the unique needs of each individual with a developmental disability.

  5. What is the NC Council on Developmental Disabilities? • We are funded through the US Administration on • Developmental Disabilities (ADD). • Our 34 members, appointed by the governor, decide how those funds will be used, based on a five-year State Plan. • Independent of DHHS

  7. What do we do? • Distribute and utilize funds (2 million dollars per year) to advance goals of the DD Act and the Council’s own state plan • Advocacy and Policy activities • Develop and Manage projects receiving Council funds • Collaborate with our NC ADD Network partners

  8. Our Mission Ensure that people with developmental disabilities & families participate in the design and have access to individualized services and support that promote self-determination, productivity, and inclusion in all aspects of community life.

  9. Council Membership • Appointed by the Governor, with input from the Council • Geographic, racial and ethnic diversity • 60% people with developmental disabilities, parents or guardians of children with developmental disabilities, or immediate relatives or guardians of adults with developmental disabilities who cannot advocate for themselves

All state entities that administer funds provided under federal laws related to individuals with DD • Division of Vocational Rehabilitation • Department of Public Instruction • Division of Aging and Adult Services • Division of MH/DD/SAS • University Centers for Excellence (CDL) • Protection and Advocacy System (DRNC) • Local and Non-governmental agencies • Non-profits concerned with people with developmental disabilities • Department of Public Health

Council Member Responsibilities • Carry out the Provisions of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act (PL 106-402; DD Act) • Make sure that the Council is a member-driven, effective, efficient, accountable organization • Gain support for the Council and its positions from people with developmental disabilities, families, policy makers, other stakeholder organizations, and the general public
