  4. Classroom Baggies • Practice Felt • Pouch Felt • Pin • Needle • Thread • Embroidery Thread • Button • Return items to baggie daily • Baggies stay in classroom • Practice Felt will be graded before you can take it home • Pouch will be graded before you can take it home

  5. Rubrics • Two rubrics • Practice Stitches • Each stitch we do is worth 20 points • We will learn 5 stitches: Basting, Back, Blind, Whip & Blanket • Total is 100 points = to a Test grade • Pouch • Graded on stitching, following directions, knots, appearance, button, and use of class time.

Thread vs. Floss • Thread is on a spool • Thread is very thin • Thread is used to learn stitches on practice felt • Thread can be doubled to increased strength • Thread is used to sew on button, and to practice all stitches! • Floss is not • Floss is thick • Floss is used on pouch project • Floss is SINGLE thread only • Floss is for just the Whip Stitch on Pouch

  7. Measure out Thread • Pull thread the length of your arm span.

  8. Cutting the Thread • Cut thread on a 45 degree angle

  9. Put Thread through Eye of Needle

  10. Double Thread • Double thread so its one arm length or less • Needle is on one end, two strings on other

  11. Tying a Knot on the end

  12. Clean up! • Return your needle with thread and knot to baggie • Return baggie to teacher • Check the floor

  13. Day 2 • Review Safety • Basting Stitch

  18. Fold Down Felt 1 ½ inches and Pin

  19. Draw a line with ruler on Folded Down Piece

  20. Sew on the Line- Basting Stitch Hide your Knot! Tie off you end when finished! Return items to Baggie Clean up the Classroom!

  26. Measure out Thread Pull thread the length of your arm span.

  27. Cutting the Thread Cut thread on a 45 degree angle

  28. Put Thread through Eye of Needle

  29. Double Thread Double thread so it’s one arms length or less Needle is on one end, two strings on other

  30. Tying a Knot on the end

  31. Fold Up Bottom Half and Pin FELT

  32. Draw a line with ruler on Folded Down Piece FELT

  33. Sew on the Line- Backstitch FELT • Hide your Knot! • Tie off you end when finished! • Return items to Baggie • Clean up the Classroom!

  34. Day 4 Single Thread!!! • Review Safety • Blind Stitch
