  2. InventedSewing Machine In 1790, by a Frenchman. To win a prize from Napoleon Bonaparte. He wanted uniforms for his army. Then in 1795, Napoleon gave a prize to another Frenchman for inventing canned food processing.

  4. In 1830 Napoleon had 80 sewing machines in a Paris workshop making French Army Uniforms for his army. The war he started Was called the French Revolution. Napoleon was a Major at 24 years old and A General at 26.

  6. By 1856 Four companies were producing sewing machines. In the next four years (1860) more than 111,000 machines by 74 US companies. Ten more years (1870) 700,000 machines were made.

  8. By 1900 • Additions to original machines included: • Zig zag stitches • Buttonholes • Two parallel seams with a double needle.

  11. In About 1979 • The Sewing Machines companies working with the new computer knowledge, put on the market a computerized sewing machine. It took the companies 40 years to blend the PC with the sewing machine.

  12. Now in today’s sewing machinesthere are over 700 built in stitches.

  13. The new presser feet moves two layers of material at the same time.

  14. Since the PC was internal on the sewing machine, it gives a read out of embroidery options.

  15. PC connected to sewing machine directly and has a USB port for a memory stick.

  16. Embroidery hoops come in several sizes.
