  2. Why career guidance needs for youth? • They never plain their future. Follow the crowd. • i.e. choose the career for influence of others or media. • Get tempted by current trends or accept the parent’s verdict by force. • Select a career in dejection. • Jump into any career. • Are totally away from realities due lack of counselling facilities. • Fail to “Discover their Lives” due lack of motivation. • Negative Result, due unavailability of proper career guidance for youth • “There is a mismatch between job aspiration of youth coming out of the Sri Lanka education system to enter the job market and actual opportunities available for them in the economy”. - Institute of policy Study in Sri Lanka , 2012

Notation of ‘career guidance’ • Helping individuals to choose between the full range of available opportunities, in • relation to their distinctive abilities, interests and values. • There are four (04) different patterns of careers. • 􀂃 Transitory - Change profession frequently, without any period of stability. • 􀂃 Steady state - Follows the selected profession consistently, which selected early • in life. • 􀂃 Linear - Upward developing of field chosen early in life • 􀂃 Spiral - Individual develops in a given field for a length of time and then • moves on to another, related or unrelated area on a cyclical basis • Ultimate aim of “Career Guidance” is to enable individuals to find worthwhile employment and contribute to the economic development of Sri Lanka.
