  3. Why Student Organizations? • Training for professional organizations • Opportunity to interact with faculty & staff • To put learning into action – use real-life skills in real-life settings • Social!

  4. Your Role • Encourage critical thinking • Historian • Campus Resource • Listener • Provide Guidance according to organizational, campus, and broader governing units • Campus Connection • Executive Order 54 – mandatory reporting/training

  5. Not Your role • To save the organization – groups have a life span • To run the organization – if students want it, they will support it • To submit finance information • To reserve rooms, plan events, present the budget to SGA

  6. Do I have to…? Should I…? • Attend all meetings? • Serve only as a “signature” advisor • Speak up during meetings? • Meet individually with executive officers? • Let them make mistakes? How big?

  10. Food Sales • Reserve Space – use EMS • Complete Food Sale Form – Get Approval • Request a Change Fund • Host the Sale • Deposit funds (Every.Single.Day.) • Reimburse for personal expenses if needed.

  11. You are planning a Battle of the Bands in the South DeBot circle. You have 3 bands lined up to play. How do you pay them? • Put in a request to SIEO (Susan LeBow) to pay for the bands • Complete a pre-contract form with Campus Activities and Recreation • Complete & sign the band’s contract and turn it in to your adviser. • Talk with Katie Schroth in Purchasing.

  12. You are planning an awesome “Game of Thrones” weekend and want to play season 1 non-stop on Friday night. How do you go about doing this? • Walk across the street to Family Video, rent the movie, submit the receipt to get reimbursed. • Complete a movie worksheet with Campus Activities, pay the royalty fee, and show the series. • Go to Wal-mart and buy the series yourself to avoid royalty issues.

  13. Your organization received Packer tickets to use in a raffle. How do you set up a raffle? • Get a raffle license from General Ledger Accounting • Go to the WI State .gov site and fill out paperwork for permission to host bingo • Since it is being conducted on campus, treat it as any other fundraiser.
