THECB Duties • Similar to TEA, but for higher education • Oversees and coordinates activities of Texas public universities, health-related institutions, and two-year colleges • Topics addressed concern: funding, facilities for state institutions, programs offered, promoting higher education attendance and success, accountability

  3. What Data Does THECB Have? • Extensive submissions from public higher education institutions • Some data from independent institutions (Rice, St. Thomas, Baylor COM) • Some data from career colleges and universities (e.g., Univ. of Phoenix, ITT)

  4. What Data Does THECB Have? (Cont.) • Texas Education Agency data • Texas Workforce Commission’s Wage Records • Adult Basic Education ??? • SAT/ACT • Federal Financial Aid data • Can ask for matching to Federal Office of Personnel Records and Military Records

  5. FERPA • Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act authorized in 1974 • FERPA generally prohibits the improper disclosure of personally identifiable information derived from education records. • FERPA permits use of these educational records for activities such as evaluation, audits, and research to improve education.
