  3. ‘the fruit is … gentleness’ • ‘If someone hits you with a stone, hit him back with a piece of cotton.’ [Turkish proverb] • gentleness is a grace and a giant • gentleness / meekness • it is not weakness • submissive to God’s will • a teachable spirit • being considerate of others

  4. ‘the fruit is … gentleness’ • ‘Being angry at the right time and never angry at the wrong time.’ [Aristotle] • it is strength under control • it is bi-directional – it has a Godward aspect to it and it also moves toward people • nothing is as strong as gentleness, and nothing so gentle as strength

  5. ‘the fruit is … gentleness’ • OT example of Moses • sterling example of Jesus • a kingdom of godly gentleness • moves in orbit of God’s will • it isn’t a Christian bully • cf. Ephesians 4:2 • it is essential for leaders • cf. Matthew 5:5

  6. ‘the fruit is … gentleness’ • invitation in Matthew 11:29 • learning gentleness from the Lord Jesus • we think as God thinks • we see as God sees • we feel as God feels • God can do anything with a man who is gentle, but he can’t do anything with a man who is not!

  7. ‘the fruit is … gentleness’ If you want to walk tall, you have to bend low … that’s gentleness!
