Welcome to Mr. Sheppard's Class for the 2012-13 school year! Our curriculum includes engaging topics in math, reading, writing, social studies, and science. Students will explore multiplication, division, fractions, and deeper reading comprehension. Writing will focus on narrative and expository styles. In social studies, we will learn about Connecticut and its capitals. Students can expect periodic spelling tests and cursive practice. Homework will consist of reading and math practice. Join us for an exciting year of learning!

Subject-Area Highlights • Math – multiplication and division, multi-digit subtraction, fractions • Reading – reading for deeper meaning, making inferences • Writing – Narrative and expository • Social Studies – Connecticut, States and capitals • Science – Four units of study
Spelling and Cursive • Spelling “tests” will be given 3-4 times a month. • Students will copy and study words that they got incorrect. • Cursive will be practiced periodically throughout the year.
Homework 20 minutes reading 15 minutes written homework (usually math) +10 minutes practicing multiplication facts 45 minutes per night Written homework not completed at home will be done during recess.
CMT’s – Common Core • Students across the nation will be studying the same curriculum. • The CMT’s will be changing significantly in the next few years.
